No previous martial art experience is needed.
The Indianapolis Shotokan Karate Club, affiliated with Shotokan Karate of America (a non-profit karate school teaching traditional Karate since 1955).
The purpose of training in this art is self-improvement. We emphasize traditional methods passed down for generations, focusing on character development through rigorous training.
As Gichin Funakoshi, the founder of Shotokan Karate, stated:
“The ultimate aim of the art of karate lies not in victory or defeat, but in the perfection of the characters of its participants.”
Weekly Practice Schedule:
- Monday: 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm (individual practice)
- Wednesday: 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm
- Friday: 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm
- Sunday: 10:00 am – 12:00 pm (advanced ranks)
Indianapolis Shotokan Karate Club:
- Started in year 2000 at Butler University and in 2015 moved to Fountain Square.
- Winner of several SKA’s Midwest Dojo of the Year award.
- Highest caliber martial arts and self-defense instruction.
- Senior instructors have a minimum of 30 years of experience.
- No previous experience is necessary to begin (ages 13 and older)
- No long-term contracts.
- No charge to test or pass any rank.
